A WA Police officer has been killed while on duty after crashing his motorcycle into a tree east of Perth on Thursday afternoon.

The officer was riding his police bike on Julimar Road near Toodyay Road at around 1.30pm when his motorcycle left the road and crashed into a tree.

Two of his fellow officers and paramedics administered emergency first aid, but the officer died as a result of his injuries.

Major Crash Officers, the Internal Affairs Unit and Worksafe will all investigate the incident, and police chaplains have been provided for the officer's workmates.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said he was deeply saddened by the death of one of his fellow officers and his thoughts were with the officer's family and his colleagues.
