Another veteran, all-rounder Daniel Christian, is also tipped to be moved on despite playing seven shield games this season. The departure of Christian, who has played for Australia in white-ball cricket, would open the door for greater opportunities for emerging all-rounders Matt Short and Will Sutherland.
While Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell all retained their Cricket Australia contracts, perennially injured paceman James Pattinson will need to return to a Victorian state-contract after CA decided against keeping him centrally tied.
Meanwhile, Nic Maddinson looks unlikely to land a Victorian deal despite being dumped by NSW. Maddinson, who played Test cricket less than 18 months ago, was cut by the Blues and has signed with the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League, but while there is interest in the batsman's signature in Victorian Premier Cricket, he is expected to start next season without a state contract.
Maddinson was named in Australia’s Twenty20 squad earlier this week ahead of tours to England and Zimbabwe.
