Kris Lees knew he had a good crop of two-year-olds last season, but he couldn’t have imagined having the favourites for the Golden Rose, Flight Stakes and Thousand Guineas on the eve of the spring classics.

The Newcastle trainer knows the next month could define his season if potential equates to group 1 wins for Graff, Miss Fabulass and Smart Melody.

“We knew we had a good group last year and looked after them, and this is the reward,” Lees said. “We are seeing the benefit of being patient now with how they are going, but they haven’t won a big one yet. That starts from now on.

“We are in a great position with our horses that are stepping every time we ask them too and there some exciting days ahead.”

Lees also has stable additions El Dorado Dreaming and In Her Time barrier-trialling at Newcastle on Wednesday, along with Clearly Innocent, while another boom three-year-old in Frankley Awesome could head to Scone on Friday.
