Former Singapore international Aleksandar Duric couldn't resist, he pointed to Canberra Stadium on Sunday and told his academy that he was playing there before they were even born.

Duric and his teams were waiting in the AIS carpark to enter the Kanga Cup opening ceremony when the former South Melbourne striker re-lived his National Soccer League days.

ACT sports minister Yvette Berry invited Duric to the Kanga Cup 12 months ago and he was so impressed he returned to the capital with two teams this week.

Duric runs the Singapore Government-backed ActiveSG football academy and brought two squads to the biggest junior soccer tournament in the southern hemisphere.

"We’re trying to develop the passion for football in Singapore kids," Duric said.
