Sharp Aquos R Compact is a Tri Bezel-less Phone Powered by Snapdragon 660 Chip

Sharp Aquos R Compact is the latest addition to the Japanese OEM’s smartphone lineup. It is quite evident from the name, that the smartphone is a smaller trimmed down version of the Aquos R. Just like its bigger brother, the Sharp Aquos R Compact features tri-bezel-less design.

Sharp isn’t exactly a household name in the smartphone market, but the Japanese display maker is a pioneer in the field of bezel-less smartphones. Its first tri-bezel less smartphone was called the Sharp Aquos Crystal. The handset was launched back in 2014, way before Mi MIX and Essential Phone were built. The all-new Aquos R Compact, however, isn’t an upgrade of the original Aquos Crystal. Instead, it’s a completely new product, but it shares a number of specifications with the recently launched Aquos Crystal S2.

The Sharp Aquos R Compact features a relatively small 4.9 inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,080p) IGZO display with 120Hz refresh rate. It very hard to spot a smartphone with such a small display these. Moreover, the lack of bezels on the sides, have markedly reduced the footprint of the smartphone. Underneath the hood, the Aquos R Compact comes with a Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC, the same chip that powers Sharp Aquos S2 comes. The smartphone is set to launch in India very soon. Besides, the Aquos R Compact rocks 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.

Sharp has managed to squeeze in the earpiece grill despite using a tri bezel-less design. The front camera too is present at the top, as the display loops around it just like in the Essential PH 1. Talking of the cameras, this Sharp handset features an 8MP front-facing shooter. Apart from that, it has a 16.4MP rear camera that comes with Hybrid AF. The Aquos R Compact comes with USB Type C, Bluetooth 5.0, Quick Charge 3.0 and IP68 certification.

The Sharp Aquos R Compact runs on Android Oreo 8.0 with EMOPA 7.0 skin on top. The smartphone will be available starting this December and will be exclusive to Softbank Japan. Sharp hasn’t disclosed the price yet, but the smartphone will be available in gold, silver, black and white colors.
