Senator Waters commissioned some costings showing that the states would be better off if the legislation was passed but the GST was removed from tampons and pads.
"The government's plan to make GST payable on items purchased online for under $1000 would raise an extra $300 million," Senator Waters says.
"Removing the GST from sanitary products would cost $115 million, so states and territories would still be $185 million ahead."
"Revenue loss would no longer be a credible excuse for refusing to axe the sexist tampon tax."
