As wild weather belts the east coast, temperatures around the city are soaring towards 38 degrees - Perth's hottest day since February.
By 10.50am, Perth's metropolitan weather station had already reached 33.5, while Swanbourne, Pearce and Jandakot all peaked at around 30 degrees.
While Perth residents rushed to local beaches to celebrate the return of summer, the Bureau of Meteorology warned the heat would be shortlived.
A thunderstorm and 30 per cent chance of rain forecast for this evening will put a dampen on any "summer weekend" plans, and temperatures are set to drop 10 degrees by Monday.
But the outlook for the rest of the week is sunny, with temperatures topping out at 37 degrees by next Saturday.
