The Illawarra Hawks and Adelaide 36ers will play in front of a sell-out crowd in Canberra on Friday night after fans voted with their feet in an audition for more NBL action.

The pre-season fixture at Tuggeranong will be buzzing after all 1090 tickets were sold four days before the game.

The Hawks are keen to push into the Canberra market to expand their fan base and are still considering playing regular-season games in the capital in the coming seasons.

Hawks coach Rob Beveridge is from Canberra and former Canberra Gunner Marshall Nelson will use the game at Tuggeranong Stadium to try to launch his NBL career.

The capital has been starved of NBL action for the past decade, despite attempts to lure teams to play in Canberra or suggestions of resurrecting the Cannons.
