A semi-trailer has crashed on the Monash Freeway causing long traffic delays in Melbourne's south-east.
The truck hit construction barriers on the freeway and during the accident punctured its fuel tank filled with 400 litres of diesel causing it to splash across the inbound lanes of the freeway.
Inbound traffic is banked up as 24 firefighters, including specialist Hazmat firefghters, work to contain the scene about 4000 metres west of the Warrigal Road entry in Chadstone. Outbound traffic is also slow.
Drivers have been warned to avoid the area, which is expected to take a number of hours to clear.
