Man charged over alleged arson at his mum's house, random St Kilda stabbings

Police have charged a man accused of burning down his mother's house and then allegedly stabbing two strangers in a St Kilda restaurant on the weekend.

Damen Stephens has been charged with 18 offences related to a house fire on Gilmour Road, Bentleigh, and a stabbing attack on unsuspecting patrons eating in a Fitzroy Street venue on Saturday.

A 44-year-old Essendon North man and 29-year-old St Kilda man sustained non-life threatening wounds in the incident.

Stephens, 43, of Bentleigh, has been charged with 18 offences including arson, intentionally causing injury, stalking and assault.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday 12 October.
