Woden-Weston took the lead three times against the Monaro Panthers but couldn't secure their first win of the season in a 4-4 shootout at Woden Enclosed on Saturday.

Wanderers coach Rey Castro said his team had missed a golden opportunity to lift themselves off the bottom of the Canberra premier league ladder, with Panthers equalising for the final time in the 90th minute.

Castro emphasised these were the games they had to win if they were any chance of sneaking into the finals.

"We were leading for the whole game, 2-0, 3-2, 4-3, we were always on top but we conceded a few lapses at the back and had to settle for a draw," Castro said.

"It is what it is, at least we didn't lose the game. The plan worked but we need to be more composed at the back and make sure we keep our head in the right place when we concede.
