"Just with injuries and coming back try to get up to my performance and try to better myself. I was a bit nervous on that and to get the cobwebs out.

"I knew I was going to play this week. It was good to try and set my base for next year and just know where I need to work on and improve on during pre-season."

Valetini came on in the 51st minute, at the same time Brumbies prop Josh Mann-Rea made his return from a serious hamstring injury, with the Vikings trailing 19-17, the same score as at half-time.

The Vikings forward pack started to get on top and they started to take control of the game.

They took the lead after Force fullback Jack McGregor bizarrely tried to keep a kick in play, only to take it into touch and turn a Force lineout into a Viking one.

Off the back of that the Vikings scored a brilliant try, with winger Andrew Muirhead crossing in the corner for his second of the day.

When flyhalf Wharenui Hawera crossed five minutes later the Vikings were in complete control - although McGregor could've scored with six minutes to go but lost the ball.

"I thought our bench, the guys that came on, I thought they were really good," Scrivener said.

"[Valetini] and [Mann-Rea] both came on and contributed, the bench did really well.

"When it's a long-term injury it's a mental hurdle to come back and get through, just participate and contribute again, and they've got through that.

"Now they can push on. They were thinking about playing for a long time now and now they've played.

Back from Wallabies duties, fullback Tom Banks shone from his very first touch - a line break that led to Muirhead's first try.

He almost made another with his second and but for a Lausii Taliauli forward pass the next phase would've led to a Ryan Lonergan try.
