Batten down the hatches: parts of Victoria are bracing for wild wind and thunderstorms after a scorcher of a week so far.

Melbourne's weather has been unpredictable in the past week and it's not over yet with severe weather warnings issued for the residents in Victoria's west.

Temperatures fell from 30 degrees to 23 degrees in just half an hour on Wednesday afternoon with the cooler conditions bringing heavy rainfall across the state.

After tossing and turning through a warm night, with temperatures falling to only 22 degrees on Tuesday, Melburnians could expect a slightly better night's sleep on Wednesday with an overnight low of 18 degrees.
