It's a big year for the Matildas with the Algarve Cup, Asian Cup and qualification for the Women's World Cup in France 2019 on the line, and coach Alen Stajcic will begin honing his preparations by calling a 24-woman squad into camp in Sydney this weekend.
The coach will whittle the number down to 22, and it is that group who will be travelling to Portugal on Tuesday.
The bulk of the players will train Saturday to Tuesday, but nine players from Sydney FC and Melbourne City are involved in Sunday's W-League Grand Final and will attend after Sunday's season finale.
Midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight – who is currently playing her football in Germany with FFC Turbine Potsdam – will not join the training camp, but is available for selection for the Portugese tournament.
“After being apart for the last three months, this camp will give all the players an opportunity to refamiliarise themselves with our team culture, playing style, and most importantly commence the battle for selection into our squad for the upcoming major tournaments.
