Racing NSW has announced a $1 million package to help thoroughbred participants under financial stress because of the drought gripping the state.
Chief executive Peter V’landys said Racing NSW had already distributed emergency funding to several people in the industry, including paying one mortgage for four months.
“We have had people coming to us and asking for help, and if we can take the pressure off them with help like paying a mortgage payment or a rates notice we do,” V’landys said. “We understand that this drought is putting an incredible strain on people.
“We have briefed our stewards in country areas and anyone needing assistance should contact them. No one should be embarrassed about asking for help, because every request will be treated with the strictest of confidence.
“We want to help those in the most financial hardship immediately on a case by case approach.
