Goriss said although they were down on personnel, it provided an opportunity for some of the younger players to push through the ranks and represent the Opals.

“There is only a limited amount of players playing in the WNBA so it gives some of the younger girls an opportunity to go and represent the Opals in a world-class tournament,” Goriss said.

“It also gives those that are still pushing for [World Cup] selection like Kelsey and other girls that have been a part of previous tours and tournaments with the Commonwealth Games.”

The Opals will take on China, Argentina and Serbia in similar playing conditions to the World Cup.

“In China we will play three games, travel to a different city, get out and play another three games then back on the plane home,” Goriss said.
