Canberra FC eliminated arch-rivals Canberra Olympic from the FFA Cup with a 2-0 victory in the fifth round at Deakin Stadium on Wednesday night.

Olympic were the Federation Cup holders - which earns a Capital Football club a spot in the FFA Cup round of 32 - but were knocked out by Canberra in the quarters.

It was a Thomas James brace in the final 10 minutes which proved the difference as the Canberra striker lifted his goal tally to 11 in seven games this season.

It was a tense and tight affair throughout but the deadlock was broken when the referee pointed to the spot on 80 minutes and James crushed the penalty into the top left corner.
