SHE may be the Material Girl and worth hundreds of millions but apparently Madonna is not above slumming it with the plebs.
The Material Girl herself, 59, was spotted by one eagle-eyed passenger on a recent flight from London to Portugal’s capital Lisbon, where she and her family currently live.
But it’s not always silver service for our Madge. The singer, worth at least three quarters of a billion dollars, was dressed down in economy rugged up in a large coat and intently looking on her phone.
Her only concession to comfort was a spare seat separating her from the next passenger.
The flight from London to Lisbon takes around two hours and 45 minutes and Tap Air Portugal, the airline Madonna flew with, sells economy seats for as little as $AU72.
That’s small change for a woman whose last world tour alone grossed more than $AU200 million.
Madonna has earnt a reputation for her frugal nature over the years, and her own brother, Christopher Ciccone, slammed her “stingy” ways in his 2008 tell-all memoir Life With My Sister Madonna.
“My sister — who in 2008 is worth in excess of $600 million … opted at the time to send our grandmother just $500 a month and to pay her monthly household bills, for Madonna, a drop in the ocean,” he wrote.
“When I think of Madonna’s wealth, I can’t help but think she’s being stingy with the grandmother who helped raise us.”
