SYDNEY has been sent into a Star Wars frenzy as Storm Troopers, Darth Vader, Wookies and even Master Yoda gathered by the harbour to watch highly anticipated trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi — complete with a light sabre-style lightshow.
The normally peaceful bay could easily have been mistaken for Endor with a giant turnout from the Southern Cross Garrison 501st — a charitable organisation which prides itself on two things: dressing up and helping out.
The red light sabre lit up the harbour, delighting gathered humans and Sandpeople.
“It’s partly to date your own nostalgia being apart of something we love,” Darren Vaughn, 46, a proud member of the 501st, said.
“But we also want to give back, volunteer work, hospital visits, charity events, birthday parties — we just love giving back.”
As for the importance of Star Wars in the group’s lives, Mr Vaughn did not mince words.
