Happy New Year! The beating of drums and snap of fire crackers accompanied Bendigo's Sun Loong dragon to Melbourne on Sunday to herald the Lunar New Year.

The colourful 100-metre-long creature, carried by 120 volunteers, wended his way from inside the Royal Exhibition Building and around Carlton Gardens to Melbourne Museum. It was the 48-year-old dragon’s first foray outside of Bendigo. Sun Loong will be on display, stretched across the museum’s level one balcony, for the next two weeks. The Bendigo Chinese Association is raising money to restore and retire Sun Loong - which resides at Bendigo’s Golden Dragon Museum, and stars in Bendigo’s Easter Parade - and introduce a new dragon to be made in Hong Kong.
