It might not be up to the Melbourne Cup like her half-sister Single Gaze last year, but Canberra trainer Keith Dryden thinks Red Heat can win a cup of her own at Goulburn on Sunday.
Red Heat will line up in the Graeme Spackman Cup, which starts Goulburn’s feature month of racing, and will lap up the 1600m.
“I have trained for the people who bred her for a long time and they decided to keep this mare to keep the family,” Dryden said. “She is not in the same class as her half-sister, but she is very tough.
“She doesn’t have the dash of Single Gaze but, at this level, she is very competitive. We think she could knock off a longer Highway, but a race like this one on a big track suits.
