Cyclist 'thrown into the air' in collision with ute

A cyclist is in a critical condition after being thrown into the air in a collision with a ute on the Gold Coast, police say.

Paramedics were treating the woman, believed to be in her 30s, for head, chest and leg injuries, which a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman described as critical.

They were called to the corner of Marine Parade and Petrie Street in Coolangatta about 6.15am.

A police spokesman said the a ute struck the cyclist, throwing her into the air.

He said there were major traffic issues in the area, with Marine Parade closed from Duranbah Hill to Snapper Rocks Road, along with Petrie Street.
