Buchanan has taken on a new freestyle challenge this year, which could pave the way for her two enter two different events at the Tokyo Olympic Games if she's successful.
Freestyle BMX is passed on accumulating points for tricks, which is a major shift from her usual racing in a 30-second sprint around a track.
