Canberra product Penny Slater won the women's under-23s triathlon world championships in Denmark on Wednesday morning, beating her closest rival by almost four minutes to claim the title.

Slater, who also finished seventh in the overall results, has shown massive improvements after finishing in the middle of the rankings at the event almost 12 months ago.

She finished the course in Fyn in an overall time of just over two-and-a-half hours to easily beat second-place getter, Russian Daria Rogozina.

Slater finished her swim in 14.53 minutes, the bike leg in 90 minutes and finished the run in 46 minutes for a time of 2:35.05. Slater has managed three wins and four podium finishes in her seven events.
