Canberra could be waiting another week to learn if they've been shortlisted for A-League expansion after Football Federation Australia delayed an announcement on Monday.

Canberra were one of 15 bids nervously awaiting a decision but they were left hanging after the FFA failed to deliver on its promise to name a shortlist.

Teams submitted an expression of interest to FFA last month and were told the bids would be cut to between four and six teams on Monday.

Bid teams were quietly frustrated with the lack of communication from the FFA, while several fans blew up at the national body on social media.

Canberra's bid will continue working on the presumption they have been shortlisted and meet with the federal and territory governments this week.

Several teams, including Canberra, were asked for clarification around their funding models and it is understood the FFA have delayed a decision because they're still waiting to hear from some bids.

Deloitte are handling the bidding process and it was a public holiday on Monday. It is understood an official announcement could still be a week away.
