Canberra Brave have secured the Australian Ice Hockey League minor premiership with five games to spare after road wins in Sydney and Newcastle over the weekend.

The Brave made it six wins on the bounce after thrashing the Sydney Ice Dogs 6-3 on Saturday and holding on for a gutsy 6-4 victory against the Newcastle Northstars on Sunday.

It marks the Brave's first minor premiership since the club formed in 2014 and it's the first piece of AIHL silverware a Canberra club has won since 1998.

The Brave were too strong for their Sydney rivals thanks to four goals and two assists from Canadian import and league points-per-game leader Chris Leveille.

Channing Bresciani and Hayden Dawes chipped in with three assists each, while is import Matt Hewitt made 19 saves in goals.
