TWO brothers unwittingly became local heroes after their attempt to save men stuck in a crash resulted in them stopping a couple of thieves from getting away.
After rushing into the street, they saw a crashed Mitsubishi Outlander on its side with two men stuck inside.
“We were trying to get them out because they looked like they were pretty stuck. We told them to calm down,” he added.
Eventually the brothers were able to get the two men free but as soon as they were back on their feet, instead of thanking them, they bolted.
Realising something was wrong, Jamil and Phil chased them up the road and eventually tackled them to the ground.
The police arrived pretty quickly after that and arrested the two men.
Bendigo police later confirmed the two men, a 29-year-old learner driver and a 42-year-old unlicensed driver, are well known to police and had stolen the car they crashed.
Both of them have since failed initial drug tests and are under police guard in hospital.
Although the Mokbel brothers are being hailed as local heroes, their bold act did come at a slight cost.
While attempting to flee with the stolen car, the two men crashed into an oncoming Toyota Yaris and a parked Toyota Corolla.
But despite the car being written off, the brothers are just happy they got through it unscathed.
