Brett Prebble gets in the winners stall on Legend of Condor

In 1999 and 2000 Brett Prebble was the star of the Flemington carnival, winning a record-setting nine races for the week in consecutive years.

A successful stint in Hong Kong took him away from Victoria but he returned to show he had lost none of his skill when he helped Legend of Condor overcome the doubters to win on a heavy track at Flemington on Cup Day.

Among those doubters was Blake Ryan, son of the trainer Gerald Ryan, who only regained confidence when Prebble reassurred him that the track wasn't bad enough to derail the sprinter's chances.

That confidence was borne out when Legend of Condor took control of the race in the final 200 metres with the margin slightly flattering to the runner-up Feared Eyes, who finished a long neck ahead of third placegetter Heaven's Deal.
