Joe Pride has won three from four with Cosmologist since he arrived from Dean Mirfin’s stable and believes he could develop into a horse in the same vein as Sense Of Occasion.

Cosmologist won the Mudgee Country Championship on a big for Mirfin early in the year and was sent to Pride this preparation. The five-year-old was again too strong over 2000m on a heavy Randwick yesterday and Pride is thinking of heading to the City Tatts Cup next.

Ciaron Maher called Yulong January ‘‘a bit of a dude’’ but he might be a pretty special dude after keeping his unbeaten record at Randwick on yesterday.

He will get to prove how far he can go in the next month in the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington on Derby Day and the Sandown Guineas.

Yulong January ($2.90 fav) revelled in the conditions and ran away to win by two lengths from Royal Celebration ($3) with Silent Explorer ($10) three lengths away in third.

Eckstein has scored a confidence-boosting win at Flemington that her trainer hopes will land her a group 1 victory later in the spring.

Trainer Kurt Goldman has set the mare for the Myer Classic at Flemington on November 3, a race Eckstein was beaten narrowly in by Shoals last year.
