A body, believed to be that of a missing north Queensland man, has been found on an isolated cattle property near Mount Isa after a land and air search on Friday.

Dallas Pyke, 37, was reported missing after he left Cairns on December 30 but never arrived in Mount Isa as planned.

He was last heard from by a truck driver, who made contact with Mr Pyke via radio on New Year's Eve.

Police arrived and found the four-wheel-drive locked and secured, but with two damaged tyres and no sign of Mr Pyke.

The following day a preliminary air search of the surrounding area was organised and on Friday, a coordinated air and land search began of what police described as harsh terrain.

A body was found about 400 metres from the abandoned Landcruiser about 3pm on Friday and police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

The body was yet to be formally identified, but police will prepare a report for the coroner.
