Anna Flanagan headlines a list of four Canberra Strikers players included in Hockey Australia's national women's development squad but Kalindi Commerford looms as the one with most at stake.
Commerford takes her place in the 2018 development squad alongside fellow Canberra stars Flanagan, Naomi Evans and Laura Gray.
Commerford has been dubbed one of six players in line to fight for two remaining senior squad positions and she'll get a chance to impress during a training camp and Test series against Spain in January.
All four Canberra players already have Australian honours to their names with Commerford and Gray held in high praise following their performances on Australia A's tour of Japan earlier this year.
Selection in the development squad kicks off a huge period for the group with April's Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and July's World Cup in London on the horizon.
"We've selected people who we think will help us develop a group that can win a medal in Tokyo," Hockeyroos head coach Paul Gaudoin said.
"We want to make sure the development squad is about preparing people to be able to play for Australia."
