Nichols' only concern at 1200m is the stronger tempo, which can get I Am A Star out of her rhythm and out of her comfort zone.
“She will put herself in the race, and I’m sure she could produce some good sections late, but whether there is a sprinter there that can just go quicker is the question,” he said.
Godolphin import Home Of The Brave has been well supported into a $3.50 favourite at Sportsbet, and Voodoo Lad, Poetic Dream and Brave Song have their supporters around the $5 mark. I Am A Star is $9.50 chance.
Nichols also has Mariquita in on Saturday and is hoping she can reproduce her flying finish when runner-up at Caulfield last month when she contests a benchmark 84 over 1400m.
“That day she ran the quickest last 600m of the day, faster than Vega Magic. She has a few problems, which need managing, and can only be ridden one way – out the back – but if they go hard she will come over the top of them,” Nichols said.
