A 53-year-old man was arrested for drink driving after members of the public spotted him allegedly swerving into oncoming traffic.

The probationary licence holder from Melba allegedly fled after a minor crash with an oncoming vehicle along Kuringa Drive, Spence, on Saturday night.

Police alleged the man drove from the scene of the crash to a property in Melba, where they later arrested him.

He was breath tested at City Police Station where he returned a result of 0.269. The legal limit for a probationary driver is zero.

Police suspended his licence on the spot and charged the man with high range drink driving and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

Acting Station Sergeant Paul Hutcheson thanked the public for their help.
