$50,000 Federal provides temporary relief for battling ACT trainers

ACT trainers don't have much to smile about at the moment but trainers Paul Jones and Barb Joseph would have thoroughly enjoyed watching race seven at Canberra on Friday.

Six-year-old gelding Anthonis cruised home to win the $50,000 Federal by almost three lengths ahead of Dylan's Deeva and Motime at Thoroughbred Park.

Jones and colleagues Matt Dale and Nick Olive met with Racing New South Wales boss Peter V'Landys in recent weeks in a bid to stop the Canberra industry from collapse.

Racing NSW dramatically increased its prizemoney last month and the gulf between the ACT is now so significant that several trainers are looking to move interstate.

Goulburn are building stables for 80 more horses, while others are considering crossing the border to train out of Queanbeyan.
