2019 AFL premiership betting: West Coast sceptics still behind the eight ball

The doubt was still there as September rolled along, with even Melbourne — who the Eagles smashed by 66 points in a preliminary final — favoured more to win the flag before that clash in Perth, despite playing in their first finals series since 2006.

An inaugural interstate club in the AFL, the Eagles weren't favoured to win the 2018 grand final, despite beating Collingwood twice from two clashes that season and winning both their matches on the MCG.

Traditionally the grand final winner is almost always listed as flag favourites the following season when markets are released in the hours immediately after the premiership decider.

Richmond, who were not considered a premiership fancy in its drought-breaking 2017 began 2018 as hot flag favourites and, despite falling to Collingwood in a preliminary final beating this season, are on the top line of betting with all major betting agencies in Australia.
